This plane was bought and taken to the paint shop. When the new owner took delivery he did a very through preflight and headed home. Three miles from takeoff the engine quit. He landed in a bean field and did no damage. A storm was approaching so he loaded it on a trailer and returned it to the airport where they discovered that the air filter had been installed on the wrong side of the screen and had been sucked into the air intake. When the FAA finally showed up they were unhappy that the plane had been moved. The fact that the rain storm would have done substantial damage to the newly painted plane did not seem to interest them. Years later when the plane had a total restoration several additional bullet holes were found from the war with Chad.
